MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR POSITION SUMMARY The Maintenance Supervisor
oversees daily operations within a maintenance shop, reporting to
the Area Maintenance Manager. This role supervises a team of
technicians responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance
of a fleet of diesel and alternative fuel vehicles, heavy-duty
equipment, and machinery supporting a post-collection facility. The
supervisor ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and
in full compliance with company policies and federal/state
regulations. A key focus is minimizing downtime by effectively
planning and scheduling maintenance activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES •Lead and manage a team of A, B, C-level and lead
technicians, ensuring all maintenance and repairs are performed
safely, on time, and up to standard. •Monitor shop performance and
operational efficiency; make strategic adjustments and report
outcomes to management. •Oversee and participate in hiring,
training, evaluations, and corrective actions in partnership with
HR and management. •Conduct daily meetings, fleet walks, and
performance coaching to foster accountability and development.
•Inspect external repair work and ensure it meets company and
regulatory standards. •Perform and oversee quality control
inspections, complex diagnostics, and road testing of vehicles.
•Manage inventory and shop expenses; approve purchases within
authority and escalate major expenses as needed. •Maintain in-depth
knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, emission, and HVAC
systems to support and guide technicians. •Ensure accurate
documentation of maintenance activity using Maintenance Software.
•Handle administrative tasks including payroll, employee records,
and budget preparation aligned with department goals. •Perform
other job-related duties as assigned or apparent MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS •3 years relevant work experience developing,
implementing and managing fleet programs •ASE Certifications: T2
(Diesel Engine), T3 (Drive Train), T4 (Brakes), T5
(Suspension/Steering), T6(Electrical/Electronic Systems), and
Master Certification preferred. •Must have knowledge of the repair
and maintenance of heavy equipment, small equipment and tools,
trucks, and company vehicles •Knowledge and application of OSHA Haz
Com; OSHA Lock Out Tag Out; and OSHA Fire Protection regulations
•Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures, including
budgeting, planning, personnel management, inventory control and
records management •Knowledge of DOT & FMCSA regulations •High
level of analytical skill to develop a range of possible solutions
to address a wide range of issues •Excellent verbal and written
communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate
with internal and external customers, colleagues and managers •Fuel
Management or experience with/knowledge of similar technology •Must
possess good leadership qualities •Ability to work various shifts
as required by workload and staffing, including assisting with
repairs due to staffing shortages •Ability to train, motivate and
coach team •Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
•Must possess own hand tools •Ability to prioritize tasks and
follow specified procedures PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS •Prolonged
periods of standing and walking •Regularly lift and/or move up to
50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and
occasionally lift and/or move 75-100 pounds •Exposure to physical
occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic
chemicals, etc.) •Exposure to physical environment which involves
moving mechanical parts, fumes, dirt, odors,noise, weather extremes
or similar elements often EDUCATION •High school diploma or
equivalent •Graduate from an accredited automotive college or
technical school a plus
