Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Successful Candidate Is Expected To Present Knowledge Of And a Solid Track Record In The Following Essential Areas

Successful candidates will be working with and supporting the Mechanical Design Team for several ongoing programs, initiatives, and projects. Responsibilities include utilizing SolidWorks CAD skills to model complex 3-D geometry in the design of opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components to support the implementation of new products and product changes targeted to improve quality and reduce manufacturing costs as directed by the Supervisor. Also requires interfacing and communicating with other functional areas of the business as needed such as configuration management and IT. Manages EPDM, libraries, templates, and processes and communicates status to Supervisor and others. Works with Project Teams, offers design solutions and solves problems.

  • Perform Duties of CAD Administrator for SolidWorks and Enterprise PDM (EPDM)
  • Manage file templates and workflows in SolidWorks and EPDM
  • Oversee organization of EPDM Vault including Project folders, COT's & Material Libraries, Technical Specifications and White Papers
  • Suggest and implement initiatives to improve efficiency within the department
  • Advanced skills in the use of SolidWorks for design and drafting of complex solid models.
  • Thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009
  • Generation of required documentation including Detailed Drawings, Design Reports, Assembly Procedures, Bills-of-Material, Test Procedures, ECO's, etc. Experience with Team Center PLM is a plus.
  • Coordinate the use and maintenance of various 3D printers
  • Organize SolidWorks and EPDM training. Maintain and update training instructions. Mentor team members with less experience
  • Solve complex problems; provide a new perspective on existing solutions; exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Work with Configuration Management and other departments to create/modify documentation workflows
  • Work with Technical Support Team to ensure sufficient licensing, proper SolidWorks/EPDM implementation, assist with configuration and testing of Solidworks/EPDM, and other related initiatives
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
  • MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio, min.
    While not required, preference will be given to candidates who possess experience in one or more of the following areas.
    • Experience with industrial design, human factors, system packaging and housing design, specifically the ability to use surfacing and advanced features in order to create organic shapes for the purpose of superior aesthetics and ergonomics in soldier systems.
    • Opto-Mechanical Design: optical element mounting, lens cell design, focus/zoom/FOV mechanism design, thermal considerations and precision tolerancing requirements.
      Qualifications
      • Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology or an equivalent scientific discipline, and 5+ years of SolidWorks design/drafting and EPDM Administration experience.
