Position Summary:
- Contributing to the successful completion of major projects
that support strategic priorities or difficult technical
objectives, the V-280 Build Team Rotors and Composites
Manufacturing Engineer understands composite manufacturing
principles, theories and concepts to develop manufacturing
technology to transfer into its designs, concepts, processes,
systems, and tools.
- Working under general direction, the individual possesses
unique Manufacturing Engineering knowledge in specialty and
advanced manufacturing technical areas. Represents Production
Engineering as manufacturing technical contact on projects,
programs and/or cross functional teams.
- The V-280 Build Team Rotors and Composites Manufacturing
Engineer will support the Bell FLRAA V-280 (Future Long Range
Assault Aircraft) program for the Advanced Vertical Lift Systems
organization.
- This role will coordinate development activities across
organizations to plan and execute projects throughout the rapid
prototyping build process from early risk reduction testing to
flight testing of the Engineering and Manufacturing Development
(EMD) prototypes and production representative vehicles.
- Plan, organize, and provide project leadership for build and
manufacturing activities related to the risk reduction and
prototyping of the FLRAA V-280 aircraft.
- Provide project management for the build of risk reduction test
articles and/or major components of the aircraft at the Bell labs,
Production COEs, and suppliers.
- Interface with suppliers to ensure quality, delivery, and cost
targets are achieved.
- Act as a team leader with skills to manage all project elements
including scope, schedule, resources, cost, risk, and quality.
- Work closely with the IPTs during design phase to comprehend
part and assembly designs and be effective at matching products
with suppliers and their capabilities.
- Operate effectively and establish appropriate priorities under
ambiguous conditions in a fast-paced environment with numerous
concurrent activities.
- Develop risk mitigation plans and solutions as issues arise to
avert schedule impacts to the build of the risk reduction,
prototype, and production representative vehicles.
- Interpret program, build, and material metrics and translate
this information into actionable activities to ensure program
success.
- Identify improvements to the build support processes and take
initiative to implement changes within the immediate team and
across the program.
- Provide status and present data to the program manager, build
team manager, and chief engineer for assigned projects and
build/material activities.
- Provide project management for the build of risk reduction test
articles and/or major components of the aircraft at the Bell labs,
Production COEs, and suppliers. Qualifications Experience and
Education:
- 3+ years in aerospace or related manufacturing industry
experience Position Requirements:
- Able to effectively identify and report potential safety and
quality hazards/risks.
- Able to develop scope of work, resource estimates, progress
metrics, and communication cadence for overall project management
to meet objectives.
- Able to perform producibility analysis and manufacturing trade
studies to determine cost effective solutions to complex
manufacturing technical objectives.
- Works through a disciplined approach in initiating, planning,
executing, controlling and closing tasks to achieve specific goals
to specific success criteria.
- Work and deliverables reviewed and checked through supervision
for technical soundness to adequately meet objectives.
- Shares manufacturing technology with team mates and
colleagues.
- Intermediate knowledge in a manufacturing technology to
include, but not limited to the following:
- Aero-structure - Airframe design of metallic, non-metallic,
machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and assembly
manufacturing processes, equipment, tool integration, and product
verification.
- Electrical and Mechanical Systems - design, integration and
installation manufacturing processes, tool integration, equipment,
and product verification.
- Tail, Main and Prop Rotor Blade Systems - design of metallic,
non-metallic, machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication
and bonded assembly manufacturing processes, tool integration,
equipment, and product verification.
- Manufacturing Execution Systems - process specifications,
CAD/CAM; production planning, material requirements scheduling, and
material kitting and handling.
- Gear and Transmission Drive Systems - metallic, non-metallic,
machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and assembly
manufacturing processes, tool application, equipment, and product
verification.
- Tool and Equipment Integration - Facility requirements,
ergonomics, safety, environmental, automation, robotics, metrology,
tool & die fabrication, tool design methodology, determinant
tooling & fixtures, loft practices, flat patterning, numerical
controlled programing of equipment, tool cutting/addition
technology applied to the fabrication and assembly of vertical lift
systems.
- Able to apply engineering design and analysis knowledge to
evaluate discrepancies and anomalies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools of Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Project, Visio and Outlook
- Strong manufacturing problem-solving skills and ability to work
independently are required.
- Programmatic experience with Certification/Airworthiness
Qualification projects required. Skills/Certifications Preferred:
- SAP, ENOVIA, CATIA, PPM, QlikView.
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project.
- Textron Six Sigma Certified (Greenbelt or Blackbelt). Preferred
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Bell business system processes and procurement
systems.
- Strong working knowledge of rapid prototype build methodologies
and maturing Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs). Relocation:
