Job Description:

Kickstart your career and seize a unique opportunity to become an Intern at the aerospace giant Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas or Atlanta, Georgia. In collaboration with Lockheed Martin, we are offering you the chance to work on the fighter jet of tomorrow, the F-35 Lightning II. During the internship, you will develop your engineering skills and expand your toolbox with courses (including Six Sigma methodologies, CATIA and aircraft familiarity) and massive practical engineering experiences.
The F-35 is a 5th generation multirole stealth fighter aircraft. With capabilities superior to any other fighter aircraft, the F-35 will form the backbone of tomorrow's air forces around the world. In the dynamic and innovative aerospace industry attention to detail, high requirements, safety, and attention to cost are the keywords. This means that you during the internship can expect to increase your skills and are ensured to become a better engineer as you will work in the challenging environment at Lockheed Martin.
More specifically, we offer three different internship opportunities described below - to which we will kindly ask you to mention the one(s) you are primarily interested in and qualified for in your application.
Please note that being enrolled at a Danish University and studying for a Master's degree at the time of the internship is a prerequisite.
The internships are running from January 15th, 2024 to June 6th, 2024 - and the internships are paid.
Option 1: Quality Engineering internship (F-35 program)Put your analytical engineering skills to the test in the Quality Engineering (Wing Assembly) or Quality Engineering (Final Assembly) department at Lockheed Martin. In this position you will get the chance to conduct big data processing, discover trends, uncover root causes and create solutions to reduce rework hours and defects - all with the goal to reduce the price of the aircraft. You will also get the opportunity to do lab experiments to obtain statistical data on solutions.You will work with quality improvement projects together with Quality Engineers and build statistical analysis tools to produce actionable data used to drive results. During this internship you will either support the Wing or Mate/Final Assembly build areas and are additionally going to work on program level quality projects.
In this internship position you will cover responsibilities within the following:

  • Help identify root causes and associated corrective actions, and participate/collaborate with the engineering counterparts on program activities to assure processes and products are compliant to contractual requirements.
  • Perform in-process inspections of production assemblies using engineering drawings and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Evaluate process/product performance using Product Build Surveillance (PBS) protocol
  • Make production data more accessible with the use of programming and analytical skills.
  • Assist with audits in manufacturing build areas.
  • Specialize in the areas of design, product evaluation and reliability, and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
  • Brief senior leadership on the status and results of their projects.
  • Work closely together with Quality Engineers and Inspectors to secure quality improvement projects
    As our new Intern, you must be a self-starter with self-awareness on how to bring value to the areas you support. In addition, you must be assertive, but also confident enough to ask for assistance if you are unsure of the next step.
    The location for this internship is Fort Worth, Texas.
    Option 2: Production Continuous Improvement internshipYou will work with quality and continuous improvement projects in a cross functional team. In this position, you will support the Center Wing build areas and often times get the opportunity to work on program level quality projects.
    In this internship position you will cover responsibilities within the following:
    • Complete process capability and performance analysis to identify potential sources of variation.
    • Devise and implement methods and procedures for improving, testing and evaluating production processes.
    • Make data more accessible with the use of programming and analytical skills.
    • Assist with audits in manufacturing build areas.
    • Specialize in the areas of design, product evaluation and reliability, and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
    • Be knowledgeable and able to provide qualified feedback on LEAN and Six-Sigma methodologies.
    • Brief senior leadership on the status and results of their projects on an ongoing basis.
      As our new Intern, you must be a self-starter with self-awareness on how to bring value to the areas you support. In addition, you must be assertive, but also confident enough to ask for assistance if you are unsure of the next step.
      The location for this internship is Atlanta, Georgia.
      Option 3: Manufacturing Simulation & ModelingIn this internship you will be working within the Data Science and Applications Engineering disciplines. You are going to be responsible for developing neural networks for automated inspection, defect identification, and defect classification. As a member of the Manufacturing Simulation & Modeling team, you will be involved in projects focused on implementing autonomous, robotic, and/or manually controlled technologies for use in performing inspections of F-35 aircraft within production and sustainment environments.
      Excellent communication skills, motivation, and a team-oriented attitude are all requirements in this position since you will be working with the different teams to investigate their specific needs and translate these into requirements for the various opportunities. In this internship your tasks may include the following:
      • Programming and Application/Software Development using various programming tools (MatLab, Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, C+, Arduino, Pixy, iOS, and/or Unix)
      • Being a creative problem-solver, always with the proper respect for our products and high level of quality
      • Creating Convolutional Neural Networking
      • 3D modeling meaning that experience with modeling programs such as CATIA, CREO, Pro-E, or NX will be perceived as an advantage
      • Light project management of own projects, - always in close collaboration with your colleagues and with the opportunity to receive sparring on various aspects.

        The location for this internship is Fort Worth, Texas. What to expect?
