Job Description:

As a Senior Ribbon SBC Engineer, is a strategic role where you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Session Border Controllers (SBCs) using Ribbon (formerly Sonus) SBC technology. As a subject matter expert, you will play a critical role in ensuring secure and reliable voice communication between different networks, such as IP-based networks, PSTN, or SIP trunk providers. This position requires deep knowledge of Ribbon SBC platforms, networking protocols, security, and strong problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities :



  • SBC Architecture and Design : Design and architect the Session Border Controller infrastructure using Ribbon SBC platforms to enable secure and efficient voice communication.


  • SBC and SBA Implementation and Configuration : Implement and configure Ribbon SBCs/SBAs based on established design and customer requirements. This includes setting up network interfaces, call routing, codec configuration, and security policies.


  • Network Integration : Integrate Ribbon SBCs with various networks, such as IP-based networks, PSTN gateways, or SIP trunk providers, to ensure seamless voice communication across different environments.


  • Security and Encryption : Implement security measures and protocols on Ribbon SBCs to protect voice traffic, including encryption, access controls, and threat detection/prevention mechanisms.


  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution : Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to Ribbon SBCs. Perform root cause analysis, collaborate with other IT teams and vendors, and apply effective solutions to ensure smooth operation of voice services.


  • Performance Optimization : Monitor and analyze SBC performance, call quality, and network utilization. Identify and implement optimizations to enhance voice quality, reliability, and overall system performance.


  • System Upgrades and Patch Management : Perform software upgrades, patches, and configuration changes on Ribbon SBC platforms. Ensure compatibility with new features, security updates, and industry best practices.


  • Documentation and Training : Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and best practices for Ribbon SBC configurations and troubleshooting. Conduct training sessions and provide support to other team members and end-users.


  • Collaboration and Project Management : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute SBC-related projects, such as expansions, migrations, or system enhancements. Define project scope, develop project plans, and ensure timely completion.


  • Stay Updated with Industry Trends : Keep abreast of emerging technologies, industry standards, and best practices related to Ribbon SBCs and voice communication. Evaluate new features and capabilities and make recommendations for system improvements.


    What it takes :


    • Education : Bachelor's degree in computer science, telecommunications, or a related field. Relevant certifications, such as Ribbon Certified SBC Engineer (RCSE) or similar, are preferred.


    • Experience : Minimum of 7-8 years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing Ribbon SBCs in enterprise environments.


      Technical Skills :


      • In-depth knowledge of Ribbon SBC platforms, such as Ribbon SBC 1000, 2000, or 7000 series.


      • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting SBC features, including SIP signaling, media handling, call routing, and transcoding.


      • Strong understanding of networking protocols, such as SIP, RTP, TCP/IP, and UDP.


      • Experience with security protocols and encryption mechanisms, including TLS, SRTP, and IPsec.


      • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements related to voice communication systems.


        Problem-Solving Skills :
        Ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
        Project Management Skills :
        Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering SBC-related projects on time and within budget.
        Communication and Collaboration :
        Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, end-users, and vendors.
