Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced, highly motivated
Principal Structures Engineer to join our Landing Systems Wheel and
Brake Structures Team. You will be instrumental in designing,
analyzing, and testing aircraft wheels and brakes for some of the
most advanced aircraft in the world. You will have an opportunity
to collaborate with a wide range of engineers in design, project,
sustaining, customer support, and manufacturing. You will also
interact with customers assisting in technical decisions for the
products you are working on. The position is working onsite at our
Troy, OH facility. Relocation assistance is available. What You
Will Do Lead Structural Engineering Projects: Lead projects for
aircraft wheel and brake development and repairs, including design
trade studies, FEA analyses, testing, validation, and resolving
operational issues Structural Analysis: Perform strength, fatigue,
and fracture analyses using classical methods and FEA tools (e.g.,
ANSYS/LS Dyna), including defining FEA model requirements,
conducting analyses, and preparing detailed reports. Testing &
Validation: Develop instrumentation and test plans for strain gage
or related testing, analyze test data, and support product
validation and qualification efforts. Reporting & Communication:
Create detailed engineering reports, share findings with internal
stakeholders, and present design reviews to external customers as
required. Methods Development: Lead projects focused on developing
methods and technologies to enhance engineering processes and
reduce new product introduction (NPI) cycle time Collaboration and
Project Management: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during
product development, validation, and qualification processes while
effectively prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and ensuring
clear communication in a fast-paced environment. Leadership &
Mentorship: Mentor junior and new engineers in learning and
developing structural engineering skills Travel: Willingness to
travel up to 5% domestically and internationally. Qualifications
You Must Have Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology,
Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior
relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and
minimum 5 years of experience Experience with prior strain gage
testing and Lifting analysis Experience with an FEA (Finite Element
Analysis) software Experience with 2D and/or 3D modeling software
Experience writing technical reports Qualifications We Prefer
Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Leading
structural engineering projects for supporting NPI in aerospace or
similar industry Ability to work simultaneously on multiple
assignments with varying degrees of complexity Superior project
management skills Experience with Aerospace structures and/or
components Experience with ANSYS or equivalent software Working
Knowledge of NX or equivalent modeling software Experience with
structural testing using strain gauges Good understanding of
aerospace materials and manufacturing processes Knowledge of
GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) What We Offer

101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good
faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX
