JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

To challenge and develop sustainable Process and Quality mastery in our plants by leading technical & operational advancements that contribute to reducing operating costs while enhancing product quality and ensuring environment compliance. Engage and coach others by exercising functional authority for planning, organizing, controlling, integrating and completing process engineering projects within area of responsibility. Provide technical support to plant personnel on new and existing processes and be an expert resource for information for the design and installation of all types of process equipment applicable to the lime / minerals manufacturing processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

* Establish standard operating practices for lime and minerals manufacturing

* Establish standards for instrumentation and control loops

* Facilitate trials and production of new products.

* Develop business case for advanced process control and coordinate implementation across sites

CHALLENGE OPERATIONS IN A CONSTRUCTIVE MANNER TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE & REDUCE COST

* Establish baseline & process limits (benchmarking) for major equipment.

* Establish and report Process & Quality KPIs necessary to ensure performance

* Partner with Continuous Improvement team to support Process & Quality improvement actions across all sites

PROVIDE EXPERTISE IN ENVIRONMENTAL EMISSIONS & TECHNOLOGIES AND SAFE OPERATION OF EQUIPMENT TO ENSURE THE BUSINESS CAN MAINTAIN ITS LICENSE TO OPERATE

* Support plants with operation of equipment to minimize emissions and maintain within permit limits.

* Contribute to the safe operation of equipment by auditing for compliance with key standards (i.e. NFPA). Develop safe operating procedures.

* Contribute to preparation / modification of permit applications

PARTNER WITH REGIONAL QUALITY MANAGERS TO DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT AND MANAGE THE CORPORATE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

* Contribute to defining and implementing the standards & tools of a comprehensive Quality Management program

* Facilitate development of and improvements to control plans based on process capabilities of each site

* Coordinate / communicate results of regional interlab/round robin testing

* Create & maintain all standards (with inputs from the regions): list of equipment & vendors, SOP s (use & calibration), maintenance contracts, calibration samples

* Coordinate process support for diagnosing quality issues

DEVELOP & DELIVER TECHNICAL TRAINING (PROCESS, QUALITY & REFRACTORY)

* Develop relevant training path and courses for plant operators, production managers & supervisors, lab/quality personnel and process engineers

* Deliver technical training and coaching sessions

ASSIST WITH CAPITAL EXPANSIONS AND EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT PROJECTS

* Provide Process/Quality expertise & support on relevant projects (Capex & Opex)

* Provide input on process design, selection of equipment and validation of process, quality and environmental benefits.

* Review projects for the proper application of equipment and process technologies

REFRACTORY

* Facilitate technical support with plants to resolve refractory issues

* Benchmark refractory wear rates and spend (in collaboration for Procurement)

* Facilitate network of plant refractory experts across Lhoist North America

* Consolidate refractory best practices and promote application in plants

* Partner with Procurement in developing brick & monolithic equivalency chart

* Coordinate refractory trials and communicate results

* Develop safety standards for key refractory installation & demolition tasks

MANAGEMENT

* Manage the team by defining the priorities and key projects/initiatives

* Initiate and facilitate networking and knowledge exchange/transfer between process engineers and quality managers in the plants and regions

* Promote the use of Lhoist information and knowledge tools (Best Practices, etc.)

* Must be able and willing to travel up to 50%, mostly in the US but also abroad.

* Good level of assertiveness to challenge and support the team

* Working knowledge & understanding of statistical process control tools and statistical analysis

* Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems, Lab equipment and Control Plans

* Working knowledge of refractories, including installation and application

* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10 years in manufacturing including management, process, quality and refractory

REQUIRED EDUCATION: BS in Engineering or related technical field.
