Job Description:
The Director of Land Operations is a key member of the Purple
Land Management ("PLM") management team and works with the VP of
Land, VP of Technology & Innovation and Operations support and land
teams to ensure that PLM's delivery and quality of service is
excellent throughout the entire of the Land department. This
position has overall responsibility for the PLM Land teams'
development and institutionalization of land practice and procedure
to ensure that all customers' needs are met with a superb level of
accuracy, timeliness and within the scope, budget and project
bounds set forth by each customer, and for the proactive
development of SOP's that will allow for future project platforms
and efficiency tools in-creation to further maximize efficiencies,
revenues and project margin opportunities. Further, this position
will require the identification of outsourcing opportunities which
may allow PLM to further enhance our collective ability to deliver
more quickly, more efficiently, and while appropriately leveraging
our landman team's talent and capabilities.--
- RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and Enforce Departmental SOP's:
- Ensures Land Department SOP's are in-place and followed,
ensuring high level of accuracy, timeliness and adherence to
project scope / budget(s) for all PLM Land customers.
- Project kick-off / update / check-in / wrap/completion meetings
with land team(s)
- Ensures project budgets / timelines are managed and met
- Host Project / Customer meetings (internal & external).--
- Enforce timely and accurate landman billing / labor tracking,
company-wide
- Manage and maximize landman efficiencies and ensure that
Employee utilization is maximized.--
- Manage all customer facing broker reporting / cost tracking
activities to ensure full visibility to cost vs. productivity
tracking for all customers' projects.--
- Manage and enforce market pay scale ensuring that all landmen
are hired at market appropriate rates, and assigned to appropriate
projects that are appropriate to landman capabilities and project
cost / pay rates.--
- Ensure Project Management Best Practices are utilized and that
customer communication is monitored for consistency and high level
of customer service.-- Manage & Maximize Landman Utilization,
Productivity & Quality of Work Product
- Landman performance stats and rankings
- Conduct performance evaluations for Director level, Regional
Office managers
- Recommend hiring, termination or talent-upgrades / needs
department-wide
- QC work product to ensure accuracy and deliverability per
project SOP's / Best Practices
- Avoid Write-Offs and Title Errors through best
practices/processes
- Review / monitor / recommend adjustments to landman talent pool
to maximize margins and ensure appropriate assignment of talent
across all projects.
- Coach and Monitor Project Managers & working landmen - address
both project specific needs as well as personnel issues (or direct
to HR).--
- Ensure thoroughness, completeness, and consistency of work
product--
- Monitor all local and field landman assignments to ensure field
/ support teams are properly allocated and are positioned to create
efficiencies for remote workforce.--
- Responsible for identifying new opportunities for outsourcing
of workflow(s) which lead to increased efficiencies or
margin.--
- Responsible for identifying new opportunities for PLM
partnership with vendors which may add complimentary or
diversifying workflow to company's business offerings.-- Develop
and Manage Mentorship / Quality Assurance Program:
- Recommend or implement training initiatives which foster career
advancement opportunities and which support the expansion of PLM
landman capabilities ---
- Help facilitate 'Lunch & Learn' trainings on a regular
cadence--
- Maintain Landman Training Library.--
- Maintain and update landman onboarding packets for landmen
onboarded across all experience / capabilities levels - Ensure
consistent onboarding and expectation setting is encompassed in the
mentorship / peer-review program Staffing & Talent Deployment:
- Constant management of talent deployment, department-wide.
- Ensures proper allocation and assignments of Employee and
Contract landmen to ensure that project vs. landman capabilities
are appropriate in order to ensure high level of service with
controlled and high-performing company performance metrics (cost of
labor, margin, etc.).--
- Institutionalizing consistent method for onboarding /
offboarding and managing Hiring Managers' priority
focus-area.--
- Institutionalizing and mentoring regional managers to manage
project costs and margin in 'real time.'--
- Monitors competitor / hiring activity to identify market trends
and ensure that land talent is sourced at appropriate rates.--
Daily Operational Responsibilities Include:
- Enforcing BPM's & Process at local level - further development
of SOP's (project rulebook) to ensure evolution with new project
needs or internal technologies .--
- Landman performance statistics and rankings. Celebrating top
performers and upgrading low performers where appropriate
- Complete Performance evaluations for regional managers
- QC & enforcement of work product quality.--
- Managing, enforcing and further development of all Landman
talent recruitment, interviewing, onboarding and offboarding
processes.
- Recommendations for hire, termination or talent-upgrades based
on cost, value, and landman capabilities vs. project matrixes
- Enforcement of successful / timely project deadlines.--
- Has final say as to personnel / talent adjustment necessary to
ensure deadlines are hit.--
- Title Errors (Write-Off's) avoidance through process and
'project rulebook' enforcement.--
- Project kick-off meetings
- Management of Project / Product library
- Ensuring all land crews are applying technology initiatives
from Corporate appropriately and consistently.
- Ensuring appropriate and consistent messaging to all
landmen
- Monitoring and coaching Project Manager customer interaction to
ensure thoroughness, completeness and consistency of quality
service.--
- Ensures thorough research and signs off on all new project
bids.--
- Ensuring timely submission of landman billing and customer
invoicing
- Timely (daily) billing enforcement of landmen and project cost
capture
- Reviews / approves landmen billing and may approve landman
time-off or other company-paid landman needs
- Participates in the support of Sales or Customer Development
activities on as-needed basis.--
- Preparing, reviewing and/or signing-off on New Project cost
proposals, department-wide. Experience:
- 7+ years of Oil and Gas Industry, Broker experience
- Track record of successfully managing landman teams and
delivering for multiple customers simultaneously across multiple
basins
- Track record of sustained customer satisfaction and high /
improved margin reported
- Experience selling services/professional services, not just
products
- Experience training / mentoring teams to ensure excellence of
work performed and maximization of practiced efficiencies
- Track record of successful and accurate project costing /
bidding across multiple basins
- Familiarity with basic cost / margin reporting and talent
management required to ensure appropriate allocation of
capabilities vs. cost department-wide Knowledge & Skills:
- Fundamentally a process enhancement and enforcement
manager
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Oil and Gas
practice, specific to Land Services (Broker) side activities,
inclusive of all most common project types (Title, Leasing, Right
of Way, Due Diligence).--
- Well-developed leadership, communication, organization and
analytical skills
- High attention to detail and an acute thoroughness to
completeness and follow-up
- Bachelor's degree required - Petroleum Land Management degree
