Director of Accounting and FinanceThe executive search practice
of BPM LLP, one of the 50 largest public accounting and advisory
firms in the country, has been retained by Kate Quinn to recruit a
Director of Accounting and Finance for this online fashion brand
that specializes in luxury clothes for children and babies (along
with some matching clothes for moms and dads!).Founded in 2006,
Kate Quinn is the classic overnight success story that took 15
years to build. After eschewing her wholesale channel that
accounted for over 70% of her revenues in 2018, Kate Quinn focused
her company on DTC (direct to consumer) and sales have since
exploded. In the years since the pivot to ecommerce, the company
and brand have grown an average of 2x each year---with no signs of
slowing!OverviewAfter three years of explosive growth, the time has
come for Kate Quinn to find an experienced Director of Accounting
and Finance to drive all accounting and finance functions of the
business. Reporting to Paul Weinstein, COO/CFO, the Director of
Accounting and Finance will have the opportunity to join the
company at this important inflection point of steep growth and will
focus on implementing and maintaining financial controls and
guidelines with an initial focus on inventory. The Director will
develop and maintain financial models, forecasts and budgets that
guide management decisions relating to ongoing working capital
needs for this high growth business and will produce thorough
financial status reports for senior management to help improve
operational efficiency and aid in continued growth.Objectives of
this Role
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by
evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
- Review inventory accounting procedures and establish best
practices for efficient inventory management
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and
procedures to current economic landscape and creating and
maintaining budgets and forecasts
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and
guidelines
- Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process
development
- Help develop and support short and long-term operational
strategiesDaily and Monthly Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems
ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory
requirements
- Manage, lead, motivate and mentor accounting staff
- Responsible for detailed review and analysis of inventory
transactions to ensure integrity of inventory value, COGS, and
inventory adjustments; develop analysis tools to enhance review of
inventory costs and to ensure accurate reporting
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies
to maintain and enforce internal control safeguards for the receipt
of revenue, expenses, and company assets
- In conjunction with CFO, establish financial and operating
benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on
a bi-weekly, monthly and annual basis
- Manage bi-weekly payroll, and ensure payroll reporting
compliance with HR
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and
procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local
legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and
future legislation
- Research and ensure compliance with all relevant technical
accounting issuesSkills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
- 10+ years proven accounting experience within both high-growth
and established organizations closely partnering with operations
and sales functions
- Possesses leadership qualities with proven experience managing
a team; enjoys an atmosphere of hard work within a fun
environment
- Collaborative, positive, encouraging, no-nonsense management
style
- Ability and willingness to wear many hats, roll up sleeves and
be a hands-on contributor
- Ability to navigate rapid change, build infrastructure,
establish processes and procedures, and make quick decisions;
comfortable with ambiguity
- Proactive communicator with the ability to actively engage
others in the course of ordinary business
- Comfortable with creating performance analysis and financial
business modeling metrics and reporting
- Detail oriented with demonstrated ability to meet strict
deadlines
- Experience preparing for and coordinating successful external
audits
- 5+ years' experience with comprehensive inventory accounting,
analysis and risk assessment
- Proficient in QuickBooks, inventory management systems, Excel
and other financial analysis tools.
- Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards
(GAAP)
- Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
- Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining
accounting processes
- A hybrid work situation is preferred, but this could possibly
be primarily remote with occasional travel to the Seattle area.
Best to be in the PNW.Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience as a senior-level accounting or finance
manager
- Previous experience in direct-to-consumer products within a
similar industry
- Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data
analysis
- Experience with ecommerce, preferably Shopify
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance
regulations and reporting
- CPA (or equivalent) highly preferred
