Under the direct supervision of the Resident Camp Director, he/she is responsible for the care and supervision of staff, campers and programs and plays an integral role in the development of building strong character values in youth. Food and lodging is provided during the resident care of campers and/or program delivery. The staff at all times is representative of the philosophy, mission and goals of the YMCA and its Camping Program. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Resident Camp Director and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

Will be responsible for supervising the duties of all staff. Will be familiar with Residence Camp Director duties and be ready to step into those duties if necessary. Will assist in the grouping of campers. Will be responsible for the starting of daily chapel time. Will assist in the organizing of overnight trips. Will report equipment needs, repairs to Residence Camp Director if not able to remedy the problem. Will keep Residence Camp Director abreast of staff needs, concerns, problems, etc. Will assist the Residence Camp Director in tasks as deemed necessary. Will review and understand all emergency drills and be prepared to implement them.? Will be prepared to discuss with parents any experience each child in the group has at camp. May be asked to telephone each camper's parent, each session to introduce him/herself and answer questions parents may have. Will at all times be responsible for ensuring the safety of all campers throughout the camping season. Will keep camp clean and safe for all campers. Will insure the preservation of the natural environment of the camp setting.

Will take responsibility for the proper use, care and storage of all camp equipment. Will maintain a neat appearance; wearing an appropriate staff shirt during assigned days. Will attend all staff training, in-services and meetings. Will read and review Camp Staff Manual. Responsible for following all policy and guidelines. All camp staff will at all times have the opportunity to meet with the Camp Director and/or Program Director to discuss any problems, needs or concerns he/she may have. Lead all staff meetings. Staff written evaluations. Evaluating program/equipment/facilities. Make cabin assignments. Organize disaster response action - drills. Arrange Family Day programs. Prepare daily schedule. Plan first day orientation activities. Coordinate evening activities. Observe counselors in activities. Plan and implement campfire ceremonies. Coordinate end of season packing.

Will assist in ad staff duties including, but not limited to: Developing evening programs, overseeing staff and campers, assisting during meal times, assisting during chapel times, keeping the rest of ad staff updated on day-to-day events, evaluating staff, and working with the Program Director to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone who comes to Camp Grady Spruce. All ad staff must work one weekend.

Requirements

  • Minimum Age 20:
  • 2 years of camp experience is required.
  • Good supervisory skills required.
  • CPR Certification:
  • Basic First Aid:
  • Lifeguard trained
  • Boaters license
  • Ropes course trained
  • Google docs or excel ability to work.
  • Will assist in the planning of staff training and day camp program.
  • May be responsible for a group of 8 to 10 campers and meet the job description of a counselor.
  • Will be responsible for planning, setting up and getting supplies for activity rotation.
  • Will take on the responsibilities of the Residence Camp Director in the absence of the director.
  • Will assist director in assuring campers are visually and auditorily supervised by staff at all times.
  • Will be alert to both children's and staff activities to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
  • Will assist in securing the safety and well-being of campers and staff; must be able to move quickly to attend injured or ill child and initiate first aid procedures.
  • Must be able to transport (pick-up and carry) children weighting up to 50 pounds in case of emergency.
  • Must be an example of good moral behavior.

  • All staff will treat all staff and campers with equal respect.
