Job Description:

Position Overview & Purpose:The Director of Research and Development (R&D) role exists to create differentiation (hardware, service, and software) in Baseline's product line that allow for competitive advantages in the rental marketplace. The Director of R&D will work directly with senior leadership at Baseline to coordinate, plan, manage, and execute the Company's strategic plans for R&D. The Director of R&D will drive value to our customers by delivering more reliable and differentiated services that allow for higher product run time and more efficient service from personnel. The Director of R&D reports to the President. Responsibilities: The Director of R&D will conduct the following responsibilities with mastery, excellence, cost-consciousness, and a focus on continuous improvement. General Management:Act as the senior project manager for all R&D product and service development efforts (initially). Implement LEAN philosophies, strict cost controls, professional reporting, and thorough project planning for all assigned R&D projectsEngage senior management to identify quarterly and annual R&D goalsManage and direct capital spending for all R&D programsIdentify key suppliers to support all product development efforts (materials, engineering, product testing, product verification) including third partiesSetup professional facility and field testing of all assigned projects to ensure optimal functionality prior to field/customer deployment Customer Engagement: -- Communicate and engage with customers and Baseline business peers frequently regarding their satisfaction with Baseline's service and products. Identify areas of needed improvement and communicate with senior management to further develop the R&D program Reporting: Publish Bi-Weekly R&D Report covering key deliverables, goals, issues, and accomplishmentsPublish reports as necessary that track success and issues associated with newly developed products and services Human ResourcesActively participate or directly manage personnel hiring, team member compensation reviews, promotions, disciplinary actions (PIP, etc)Train and develop your direct reports in their own personal leadership and competency and work to find avenues for growth and promotion over timeConduct scorecard reviews for direct reports on a quarterly basis. Ensure key outcomes are up-to-date and properly understood by all team members.Stay actively aligned and engaged with Baseline's top-grading/A-player HR programs Financial Responsibilities:Ensure all R&D personnel properly use company purchasing processesUse Cost Reports developed by accounting/finance team to analyze and review monthly/quarterly field expenses of each operating region; conduct calls and review monthly expenses with Operations Managers regarding field expensesWork with Materials Director to complete bulk purchases of supplies and services required to complete R&D objectives Major business goals/outcomes:Deliver on exceptional performance related to Baseline's business strategy for R&D:Build a high performing R&D team that consistently delivers on time and on budget for all assigned projects. The team should be able to consistently produce products that are economically useful to our customers, solving their problems and helping them to increase their efficiencyWork with senior management to identify the best products to direct time and spending that will yield the great improvements for our customers and a strong ROI profile for BaselineAdditional business goals and outcomes will be presented upon full-time hire Critical competencies for success:Efficiency: Able to produce significant output with minimal wasted effortOrganization and Planning: Plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient manner. Brings new ideas to the companyCost-consciousness: Strong negotiating skills with a focus on minimizing cost and maximizing value of internal and external products and servicesWork Ethic: Possesses a strong willingness to work hard and sometimes long hours to get the job done Teamwork: Reaches out to peers and cooperates with management to establish an overall collaborative working environment. Must possess a high degree of energy, strong personal character, integrity, leadership, and respect and have the proper personal demeanor, and professional outlook to create a positive working environment. Candidate Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a leading university. Consideration will be given to other degree fields however an engineering-oriented background is strongly desired for this rolePreference will be given to candidates that have a master's degree or higher with high grade performance/strong GPAWork Experience: The ideal candidate will have a five to ten years of oilfield equipment engineering and design / power generation equipment engineering and design experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and assemble teams.Preference will be given to candidates who have been in team leadership roles in dynamic and sophisticated work environments with a strong demonstrated track record of success in delivering on projects, company expectations, and customer expectations
