- Escorts patient and family to and from examination room.
- Explains exam to patient and family prior to the commencement
of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
- Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data
for interpretation by a physician.
- Maintains patient charts and records, and records/processes
sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the
procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
- Creates a preliminary report for physician
review/signature.
- Reviews studies with physicians.
- Assists physician with procedures such as amniocentesis and
chorionic villus sampling.
- Codes appropriate for services performed.
- Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment.
- Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate
corrective action.
- Maintains laundry for examination rooms.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound
supplies.
- Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining
two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where
applicable.
- Follows and complies with universal precautions and OSHA
standards.
- Follows and complies with safety and security training.
- Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences.
- Performs related and other assigned duties as
directed.Qualifications
- Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician
working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency
situations. Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in
ultrasonography or equivalent.
- ARDMS OB/GYN certified or eligible
- Fetal echo certification or eligible to obtain within 6 to 12
months of hire. Fetal echo experience preferred or will be
provided. Participates in staff development, in-service workshops,
and educational activities. Participates in professional
development activities and meetings.
- Completion of a program containing OB/GYN ultrasonography.
- CPR certification required.
- Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two
(2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year
on-the-job- training in ultrasonography, or completion of an
approved ultrasonography educational program.
- Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
- Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to
fulfill accreditation requirements.Benefits and
