Job Description:Description: The Food Service Worker performs a variety of functions and tasks pertinent to food preparation, service, distribution of food to patients and staff, and general kitchen maintenance to include preparing and delivering food trays to hospital patients and performing any combination of the following food duties: assembles and serves food items in hospital cafeteria; apportions and places food on plates and trays according to diet list on diet tray ticket; examines filled tray for completeness and places on cart, or conveyor belt; pushes carts to assigned locations; serves trays to patients; collects and stacks dirty dishes on cart and returns cart to kitchen; washes dishes and cleans work area, tables, cabinets, and ovens; and collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers. The Food Service Worker works in various areas of the department (e.g. patient/cafeteria tray line, dish room, pots and pans, sanitation and/or storeroom). The Food Service Worker works varying hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays.Typical Duties:

  • Performs food service processes (e.g., tray line, cafeteria line, and/or meal service) to include serving food by placing uniform portions of food on patients and/or customers plates.

    • Follows instructions for meal preparation and tray assembly for patients with specific dietary needs (e.g. regular, modified, individual diet orders, food allergies, etc.) and makes sure to omit any ingredients that may cause ill affect.

      • Prepares food items and simple recipes (e.g. sandwiches, salads, beverages, and snacks).

        • Accurately apportions food items for patient tray service and cafeteria meal services in accordance to accompanying menus and/or dietary requirements.

          • Inspects patient trays on tray line and ensures food items match menu and instructions on patient diet orders.

            • Places trays in food carts and physically pushes (pushing force less than 50 lbs.) those through hospital corridors to assigned floors. Transports patient trays and tray delivery carts, nourishments, supplies, and special item requests to hospital patient care areas. Collects food trays and dirty dishes and carts them back to the kitchen for washing.

              • Sets up cafeteria lines and steam tables, with hot and cold food items (e.g. meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, etc.). Returns leftover food to cooks after mealtime and stores other foods appropriately.

                • Operates, safely and accurately, a variety of commercial food service equipment, including knives, slicer, thermometers, measuring utensils, scales, toaster, food warmer, blender, mixer, and microwave oven.

                  • Maintains a sanitary work environment. Cleans equipment used during meal services including steam tables, carts and counters, and sanitizes serving utensils, plates, trays, plate covers and other service items.

                    • Maintains and stocks diet aid and nourishment supplies. Takes inventory of items in stock area and coolers including rotation of stock, dating, and labeling.

                      • Inspects equipment (e.g. tray carts, commercial equipment) and reports equipment malfunctions and/or need for repair to management.

                        • Follows correct food temperature maintenance, safe work practices, and uses safe food handling techniques (e.g. HACCP, Code Compliance and other regulatory procedures).

                          • Exhibits and meets personal hygiene in compliance with the Network and health and safety code requirements.

                            • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and policies that impact Nutritional Services.

                              • Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:

                                • Required Education and Experience:
                                • 3 plus years of experience working in the food service industry performing food preparation, dish washing, and/or hospitality services related to food management, catering, etc. may substitute for the required education.
                                  Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
                                • Must have a current City of Fort Worth Food Handlers Certification.OR
                                • Must have completed an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handlers Certificate Program.
                                  Preferred Education and Experience:
                                • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
                                • Experience working on a cafeteria/tray line to include pushing food trays in a large cafeteria setting (e.g. hospitals, correctional institutions, colleges, etc.).Location Address:
