Atmospheric Science Technology, LLC Description:
This part-time position is responsible for performing weather observing and forecasting functions in support of the Fleet Weather Center and its customers. Hourly pay begins at $38.51 Weather Forecaster / $33.62 Weather Observer plus $5.15 per hour Health & Welfare. The candidate will be paid as an observer during the qualification process and when working observer only shifts. Night and Sunday differential is compounded to base pay. The schedule will be determined by the Site Manager and may include holidays, weekends, and nights. Duties may include occasional overtime. Roles and Responsibilities Include

  • Performs Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations
  • Monitors radar and satellite imagery
  • Issues weather warnings, watches, and advisories
  • Responds to PMSV
  • Receives and disseminates PIREPs
  • Provides DD-175-1, canned route, and over-the-counter briefings
  • Issues Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts.
  • Operates the Automated Surface Observing System Minimum Requirements
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service (NWS), including two years experience in observing, taking, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) code
    • Prior forecaster certification with the DoD or NWS, including two years experience in aviation forecasting.
    • Must have completed a formal DoD training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent NWS program. Must provide proof of completion. Preferred Qualifications
      • Persons having a recent background check and/or having a security clearance within the past two years.
      • Experience with the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer Physical Demands/Requirements
        • Sitting-Continuous 5.5 to 8 hours per shift
        • Stand-Frequent .25 to 5.5 hours per shift
        • Lift/Carry-Occasionally 0-10 lbs
        • Walk- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
        • Drive-Never
        • Reach Above- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
        • Bend/Stoop-Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
        • Pushing/Pulling-Never
        • Fine Manipulation-Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
        • Stress Level-Moderate Work Environment
          The selected candidate will work solo in an office-type atmosphere. Meals are taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. The candidate can expect irregular work hours to consist of days, evenings, and weekends. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis.
